Insurance-Claim Roof Documentation, Done Honestly

Storm or hail damage is stressful. We make the roofing side simple — documenting your damage clearly so your claim stands on solid evidence.

Please read: PL Roofing & Remodeling is an insured roofing contractor and does not act as a public insurance adjuster. We do not guarantee claim approval, deductible waivers, insurance payouts, or any legal outcome. We document your roof and provide a contractor estimate — your insurer determines your claim.

What we do — and don't

Clear About Our Role

✓ We do

Inspect & document damage · provide measurements & estimates · provide evidence for your claim · complete approved work with warranty.

✗ We don't

Negotiate your claim · act as a public adjuster · promise approval, payouts, or deductible waivers · make legal promises.

Texas law (Ins. Code Chapter 707) prohibits a contractor from paying or rebating your insurance deductible. We follow it — your deductible is your responsibility, as your policy requires.

Understanding Your Claim

Insurance language can be confusing. Here's plain English on the terms homeowners ask us about most, so you always know where your claim stands. Remember: we're your roofing contractor, not a public adjuster — your insurer decides your claim.

Your deductible

The portion of the repair you pay, set by your policy. By Texas law (Ins. Code Chapter 707) a contractor cannot waive or absorb it — anyone who offers to is a red flag.

See how a deductible works
Chart for a $300,000 home with a 3% dwelling deductible: a $20,000 roof, $9,000 paid by the homeowner and about $11,000 by insurance. It states that Texas law requires the homeowner to pay the deductible and that a contractor cannot waive, absorb or pay it back, then shows the legal alternatives — payment plans and financing — and notes that optional roof upgrades do not replace the deductible.

ACV vs. RCV

Actual Cash Value is the depreciated amount; Replacement Cost Value is the full cost to replace. Many policies pay ACV first and release the rest once the work is completed.

See the ACV vs. RCV chart
Chart comparing Actual Cash Value with Replacement Cost Value on the same $20,000 roof claim. Both subtract the $9,000 deductible. ACV also subtracts $9,500 of depreciation that is never paid back and pays $1,500; RCV subtracts none and pays $11,000 — $9,500 more. A note explains that an RCV policy pays the $1,500 first and releases the remaining $9,500 once the roof is finished and documented.

Recoverable depreciation

The amount your insurer holds back and releases after repairs are finished and documented. We provide the closeout paperwork that helps you recover it.

See how the second payment works
Chart explaining recoverable depreciation as the second payment on a claim. It shows three stages on the same $20,000 roof: a first payment of $1,500, the roof being built and documented, and $9,500 of depreciation released afterwards, totalling $11,000. A warning explains that non-recoverable depreciation is never released and that an Actual Cash Value policy has nothing to recover.

Supplements

If the adjuster's scope misses damage or code-required items, we document it and prepare a supplemental estimate, with photos and measurements, for your insurer to review.

See how a supplement is built
Chart explaining a roof-claim supplement: a written request to an insurer to add work the first approved scope left out, supported by photographs and measurements. It shows four stages — the approved scope arrives, the roof is measured, the gap is documented, the insurer reviews — lists items commonly left off a first scope such as drip edge, ice-and-water shield, decking replacement, ridge vent, flashing and code-required upgrades, and states that a supplement is not a bill to the homeowner and does not change the deductible.

Your claim, milestone by milestone

File & document

We inspect and document the damage; you file the claim with your carrier.

Adjuster inspection

At your request, we can be on site when your adjuster inspects the roof to point out the damage we documented and answer construction questions. We don't negotiate the claim.

Scope & decision

Your insurer sets the approved scope. If something is missing, we can document it in a supplemental estimate for your insurer to review.

Repairs & depreciation

We complete approved work, document closeout, and provide the closeout documents you need to request recoverable depreciation.

Common questions

Insurance Claim FAQ

Will you handle my whole insurance claim?

No. We document the roof damage and provide a contractor estimate. You file and manage the claim with your insurer. We're not a public adjuster.

Can you waive or cover my deductible?

No. Texas law prohibits contractors from paying or rebating your insurance deductible, and we follow the law.

What if my claim is denied?

You can still move forward with a repair or replacement on your own terms. We'll provide a clear estimate and options either way.

How soon should I get inspected after a storm?

As soon as it's safe. Prompt documentation helps your claim and prevents further water damage. Call us for emergency tarping if needed.
